Menu - Classes

Almitas Dance Academy is proud to offer a variety of folklorico classes. All skill levels are welcome - we love introducing basic steps to beginners and challenging our more experienced dancers with special choreography. Performing is encouraged but not a requirement. Students may participate simply for a fun cultural and recreational experience!

Our kids classes range from age 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 and adults, but those are just guidelines. Children can try different classes to see which one best aligns with their skill and maturity.

Some dances require male partners, so boys and men are highly encouraged to join!

Age 3-5 Beginner (Hawthorne)

Mondays 5:00 PM

Age 3-8 Beginner (Wilmington)

Saturdays 9:00 AM

Region/s: Chiapas, Sinaloa, Veracruz

Age 6-8 Beginner

Mondays ( Currently FULL)

Thursdays 6:00 PM

Region: Jalisco, Sinaloa

Age 9-12+ Beginner

Mondays 7:00 PM

Region: Sinaloa

While this is still a beginner class, it's faster paced than the Age 6-8 class. We introduce choreography and advance from the simplified steps learned in younger classes.

Age 9-12+ Intermediate

Tuesdays & Thursdays 7:00-8:30 PM

Region/s: Sinaloa, Veracruz

Students must have experience and be willing to commit to practices and performances. We focus on refining the steps from beginner classes, and most songs have choreography.

Adult Beginner

Mondays 8:00 PM (moms & dads) or Tuesdays 8:00 PM (adults only)

Region/s: Calabaceado, Sinaloa, Sinaloa Charleston

No experience required. Join for the socialization and great workout! We are learning choreography with a goal of performing, but getting on stage is not mandatory. We have a LOT of fun together.

We're MORE Than Just A Dance Class

Check In

For our younger classes, we pause mid-class. Each child has an opportunity to talk about their week or share a favorite toy. We follow our chat with a short game (freeze tag, duck duck goose, etc.) then jump back into our folklorico lesson. Not only does this allow the kids to bond as a team, it also helps keep them positive and engaged. Our classes should not feel like a chore - let's have some fun together!

Quarterly Get Togethers

Not everything is about performing. We bring our families together several times a year to celebrate and socialize. People bring their favorite dishes to share, the kids play, and we usually have a pinata and a canvas painting session. Our goal is for each student and family to feel welcome and comfortable with our teachers and each other.

So How Much Is This Going To Cost?

Our classes are reasonably priced and we offer discounted rates for families. There is a one time registration fee of $35 per family. You can try the first class for FREE!

Once you join, practice skirts are available until you bring or buy your own. You may wear tennis shoes if you don't have folklorico shoes. We have full folklorico attire and needs for sale. Just talk to Ms. Nancy!

Students are not required to perform. If you're interested in performing, we will explain the process of ordering the appropriate vestuario for your region (Jalisco, Veracruz, Sinaloa, Chiapas etc). We often hold fundraisers to help offset the costs for our students.
